Vincent Kompany, newly appointed as Bayern Munich’s manager, is reportedly eyeing Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko as his first signing. Despite Kompany’s recent relegation with Burnley, he succeeded Thomas Tuchel and is now focused on bolstering Bayern’s squad for the 2024-25 campaign to reclaim the Bundesliga title from Bayer Leverkusen.

According to The Mirror, Kompany is keen on the Ukrainian left-back, 27, who was sidelined by Arsenal towards the end of the season, and replaced by Jakub Kiwior and Takehiro Tomiyasu. Zinchenko, who joined Arsenal from Manchester City for £35 million in 2022, did not start in the Gunners’ last six Premier League games, all of which they won. With Jurrien Timber returning from an ACL injury, Zinchenko may fall further down the pecking order.

A move to Bayern could be strategic, especially with reports of Alphonso Davies possibly joining Real Madrid. Zinchenko, who previously played alongside Kompany at Man City, is not Bayern’s only target; they are also linked with AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez. Reflecting on his season, Zinchenko expressed on social media, “Personally I completely understand that it wasn’t my best season so far and I promise first of all to all fans and doubters that I’ll be back much stronger.”
