MLS teams eye Antoine Griezmann after learning about his unexpected release clause

Antoine Griezmann, a key player in France's 2018 World Cup victory, moved from Atletico Madrid to Barcelona in 2019 for €120m but returned to Atletico in 2022 for €20m after a challenging stint.

The French international, who played a key role in his country’s 2018 World Cup victory, was once part of a high-profile €120m (£102m/$130m) transfer, moving from Madrid to Barcelona in the summer of 2019. However, his time at Camp Nou did not go as planned, prompting his return to Atletico Madrid.

Griezmann rejoined Atletico in 2022 for just €20m (£17m/$22m) following an initial loan period. Last season, he demonstrated his enduring prowess by scoring 24 goals in 48 appearances across all competitions.

Now 33, Griezmann continues to attract interest from MLS and top European clubs, according to L’Equipe. This interest is partly due to his relatively low release clause of €15m (£13m/$16m).

However, a 2024 transfer seems unlikely. While preparing for the European Championship, Griezmann addressed his future, saying, “I have had offers and calls but I have been clear – I want to stay at Atletico. I made a lot of effort to come back and be accepted. I want it to be my last club in Europe.”
