Kylian Mbappe is widely anticipated to join Real Madrid this summer, ending his seven-year tenure with Paris Saint-Germain. The 25-year-old forward has announced his departure from the Ligue 1 club, eagerly looking forward to winning trophies with his new teammates. Despite not regretting his decision to extend his contract with PSG in 2022, Mbappe admitted that he wouldn’t want anyone to go through the same experiences he did.
In an interview with CNN, Mbappe shared, “I want to be happy. I will leave my country for the first time. It’s going to be an amazing experience and I can’t wait to be in my new club. I want to win trophies. When you speak about football, [it’s about] winning trophies, being with new team-mates. Now, I have my contract with PSG. Everybody knows that it’s soon finishing and we’re going to see what happens.”
Reflecting on his decision to stay in Paris in 2022, he explained, “It was more than just staying at PSG. It was the World Cup in Qatar. It was many things around these things. It was a big decision, difficult decision … but I don’t regret anything. Of course, in a career, you have to take difficult decisions and it’s what I did, but I became the all-time top scorer with PSG. I just want to remember the best things. It was not an easy situation and I wish nobody to live that.”
Mbappe leaves PSG after a highly successful period, having become the club’s record scorer. Although he won numerous titles with the French club, the Champions League eluded them. At Real Madrid, he has a strong chance of achieving that goal.
Before his departure from PSG is finalized and his move to Madrid is confirmed, Mbappe will represent France at this year’s European Championship in Germany.
