Anthony Martial has left Manchester United after nine years, announcing his departure with an emotional Instagram video and caption. The 28-year-old Frenchman joined United from Monaco in 2015 for an initial £36 million, rising to £44 million with add-ons.

His contract, extended in January 2019 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, offered £200k-a-week wages until this summer, with an option for an additional year. United opted not to extend or renegotiate his contract, as Sir Jim Ratcliffe aims to free up space within PSR constraints by allowing high earners to leave. This decision also impacted Raphael Varane, whose contract option was similarly not exercised, despite his FA Cup final contribution. Martial made just 13 Premier League appearances this season, scoring one goal, and struggled with form and fitness.

Loaned to Sevilla in 2022, he sought to regain his early promise. Injuries and form issues led Erik ten Hag to be excluded from the squad for the FA Cup final. Martial leaves United with 90 goals in 317 games, thanking fans for their support in a heartfelt Instagram statement.
