Christian Eriksen may have the chance to rejoin his first club, Ajax, this summer if Manchester United agrees to a pay-off. The Danish midfielder, 32, has 12 months left on his £150,000-a-week contract, but United is keen to offload high earners to fund Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s planned rebuild.
Eriksen, however, is waiting to see if his former Spurs manager, Mauricio Pochettino, replaces Erik ten Hag at United. United might not ask for a transfer fee for Eriksen if it is factored into the contract settlement. Pochettino, linked with an Old Trafford return, reportedly wants Eriksen as a key player. Eriksen joined United in 2022 after a successful stint at Brentford, following his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020. Despite making 44 appearances in his first season, injuries limited him to 28 this term.
Eriksen was an unused substitute in United’s 2-1 FA Cup final win over Man City, securing Europa League qualification despite their eighth-place Premier League finish. Chelsea, finishing sixth, will play in the Europa Conference League, while seventh-place Newcastle misses out on continental football entirely.
Here is the highlight video of Erikson’s skills in 2024.
