Chelsea have held discussions with Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca as part of their search for a new manager. Maresca is among three top candidates, including Ipswich’s Kieran McKenna and Brentford’s Thomas Frank. While there’s no clear frontrunner, Maresca was encouraged by the initial talks.

The Italian, who joined Leicester from Manchester City’s coaching staff, has a £10 million release clause in his contract. Chelsea have yet to discuss contract details with Maresca, but he is expected to receive a longer deal than Mauricio Pochettino’s two-year contract. Maresca led Leicester to the Championship title last season and has prior experience with Parma and West Ham. Chelsea aims to appoint a new manager by the end of next week, marking the third permanent managerial change under their American ownership.

They face stiff competition for McKenna, admired by Brighton and Manchester United. Frank, successful at Brentford, remains open about his future but expects to start next season with Brentford. He emphasized his contentment, saying, “I’m very aware the grass is not greener in the garden next door.”
