He faces four allegations of contravening FA Rule E5.1 during Premier League fixtures against Leicester City (November 12, 2022), Aston Villa (March 12, 2023), Leeds United (May 21, 2023), and AFC Bournemouth (August 12, 2023). The accusation contends that he sought to influence match proceedings by purposely seeking disciplinary action from referees to manipulate the betting market for profit.

Additionally, Paqueta has been charged with two violations of FA Rule F3 for alleged failures to comply with FA Rule F2.

Expressing his dismay on Instagram, Paqueta stated, “I am extremely surprised and upset that the FA has decided to charge me. For nine moenths I have cooperated with every step of their investigation and provided all the information I can. I deny the charges in their entirety and will fight with every breath to clear my name. Due to the ongoing process, I will not be providing any further comment.”

These charges could significantly impact Paqueta’s future, particularly as he has been linked with a potential move to Manchester City once again. While personal terms are reportedly agreed upon, uncertainties linger over whether the deal will materialize. Manchester City’s previous interest in the player waned last summer amid the commencement of investigations into the alleged betting violations.
