Earlier this month, it was confirmed that David Moyes would be departing West Ham once his contract expires. Moyes, who played a crucial role in stabilizing the club, will pass the baton to Julen Lopetegui, a seasoned manager with an impressive track record, having worked at Real Madrid and with the Spanish national team.

Expressing his excitement, Lopetegui said, “I’m thrilled to be part of the future of this great club. We aim to make our mark here. As a coach, my ambition is constant improvement, setting higher goals, and nurturing and enhancing the players and the team to compete because football is all about competition. We have big ambitions for this.”

“I’m exactly where I want to be. I chose to be here, and I’m fully committed to it. While we had other options, I’m delighted West Ham chose me because I chose West Ham too. So, we’re really pleased about this.”

Joining Lopetegui at West Ham are key members from his previous coaching staff. Pablo Sanz will be assistant head coach, and Oscar Caro will serve as head of performance and assistant coach. However, Xavi Valero will remain goalkeeper coach, continuing from Moyes’ tenure.

West Ham’s technical director, Tim Steidten, led the rigorous recruitment process, thoroughly assessing multiple candidates before deciding on Lopetegui as the ideal choice. The club engaged in discussions with Ruben Amorim from Sporting Lisbon, who even travelled to London for meetings, highlighting West Ham’s meticulous approach in securing the best candidate.

Since leaving Wolverhampton Wanderers before the 2023-24 season, Lopetegui has declined offers from various Premier League, La Liga, and Saudi Pro League clubs. Even Bayern Munich, in search of a successor for Thomas Tuchel, approached him, but he turned them down too. The club’s supporters eagerly anticipate the new era under Lopetegui’s leadership, hoping for a revival in the Premier League standings.
