Paulo Fonseca has verbally agreed to the terms of a contract with Milan and is reportedly on the brink of succeeding Stefano Pioli.
The Rossoneri have been actively seeking a new head coach to replace Pioli, who has been at the helm for five years. Despite securing a commendable second-place finish in Serie A, the disappointment of exiting the Champions League and falling behind Inter in the title race left fans and owners wanting change.
Milan explored a lengthy list of potential coaches, including Julen Lopetegui, Sergio Conceicao, and Mark van Bommel, but Fonseca swiftly emerged as a leading contender. His impressive stint at Lille and his prior experience at Roma were influential factors.
Reportedly, Fonseca is on the verge of joining Milan. According to Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Fonseca has given his approval to a three-year contract with Milan worth approximately €3 million net per season, positioning him just one step away from assuming the role of head coach at the club.
However, before Fonseca’s appointment can be finalized, Milan must first part ways with Pioli. Valerio Giuffrida, Pioli’s agent, was seen at the club’s headquarters this morning, indicating ongoing negotiations regarding severance pay.
