Polish international Piotr Zielinski penned a heartfelt letter to Napoli and its supporters before his free transfer to Inter, expressing gratitude to the Partenopei for their respectful treatment when he decided to leave.

Zielinski celebrated his 30th birthday with his Napoli teammates on Monday, possibly marking his final appearance with the team. Due to a calf injury, he missed the last four matches and is unlikely to return for Sunday’s final league game against Lecce at the Stadio Maradona.

This summer, the Poland midfielder will join Inter on a free transfer.

According to Alfredo Pedullà, Zielinski read his letter aloud to his teammates during Monday’s celebration.

“Napoli, I’d like to thank you for all you did for me,” the midfielder wrote.

“My family and I have never felt as safe as here and I will forever remember all the nice things and the amazing people I’ve met in Naples.”

“You are extraordinary people, and you can be proud of that. I will always admire your mentality,” continued the 30-year-old.

“I will never forget your support and your friendship. Thanks to you, I’ve reached all I could in our club. With you, we fought in important games and lived through unbelievable emotions. You are the best fans I could ever have. You showed me how nice the football world can be.”

“Here, I became a man, a leader and the father of my son. My wife and I are grateful for all that happened to us here. Your hospitality and openness are something everyone must learn from. Thanks for your support. You are my friends. Now it’s time to celebrate and have fun together. You are extraordinary people and I’ve learned to know, love and admire you.”

“I like your mentality which you can be proud of. Thank you because nobody has ever insulted me after my decision to change the team. It means a lot to me. The successes we have achieved with our club reflect my dreams.”

Zielinski joined Napoli from Udinese in a €16 million deal in 2016, winning a Coppa Italia and a historic Serie A title with the team.

The Polish midfielder scored 51 goals and provided 46 assists in 364 appearances with the Serie A giants.

He has decided to join Inter at the end of his contract in June and will be one of the first two new signings for the defending Serie A champions, alongside Mehdi Taremi.
