Earlier in the month, Foden found himself on the shortlist for the award alongside his City teammate Erling Haaland, Arsenal pair Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, Cole Palmer from Chelsea, Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, Ollie Watkins from Aston Villa, and Virgil van Dijk from Liverpool. Now, the 23-year-old has officially emerged as the victor.

Expressing his sentiments, the English international stated, “To win this award is an achievement that I am extremely proud of. The Premier League is acknowledged as the greatest league in the world, and it is a pleasure to have been nominated with so many other great players who have all enjoyed special seasons for their clubs. Overall, I’ve been very happy with the way I have played this season and really pleased that I have been able to contribute with the goals and assists throughout the season. I’d like to thank all of the City staff, coaches and especially my teammates because without them this wouldn’t be possible. And I would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who voted for me as the award means a lot.”

Operating as a winger but versatile enough to slot into the attacking midfield role, Foden has enjoyed his most prolific season yet for City, tallying an impressive 25 goals and providing 11 assists across all competitions. His stellar displays have propelled Pep Guardiola’s side to the cusp of a fourth consecutive Premier League title, with a place in the FA Cup final also secured.

Foden is poised to round off an exceptional individual campaign as City, in pursuit of the Premier League crown, take on West Ham this Sunday in their final fixture of the season. Securing a victory against David Moyes’ side will clinch the title for City for the second consecutive year, edging out Arsenal once again.
