Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has been ruled out of the last two matches of the season following scans that revealed a fracture to his eye socket. The Brazilian sustained the injury during a 2-0 win at Tottenham after a collision with Cristian Romero.

Scans showed a small crack below his right eye, sidelining him for the final Premier League match against West Ham and the FA Cup final against Manchester United. Although his deputy, Stefan Ortega, was expected to start in the FA Cup final, his absence in the league game is a setback. City were criticized by brain injury charity Headway for not immediately substituting Ederson after the collision.

He played on briefly before being replaced by Ortega, who turned in a heroic performance. Despite the initial anger at being subbed, the decision was validated by Ortega’s crucial saves. Guardiola expressed confidence in his backup goalkeepers, indicating minimal concern over Ederson’s absence for the title-deciding match.
