Paolo Maldini has strongly criticized the suppression of his recent revealing interview, with his legal representative cautioning against any infringement on the former Milan director’s rights.
In a recent interview with journalist Alessandro Alciato on Radio Serie A, the official radio channel of the Italian top flight, the iconic former defender candidly discussed his playing career, his tenure as a director, and the contentious circumstances of his departure from his beloved club.
However, the day after the interview was conducted, Alciato revealed that he faced “pressure” not to broadcast the revealing conversation with Maldini, expressing his discontent with the situation. Maldini’s contentious departure from Milan last year stirred significant tensions between the fans and the club’s new owners, RedBird.
Via ANSA, Maldini and his lawyer, Danilo Buongiorno, issued a statement denouncing the censorship of the interview, and they hinted at the possibility of legal action.
“In response to the blatant censorship of his interview on Radio Serie A on May 9th, Paolo Maldini declares that he has already engaged legal counsel to defend himself against such unjust treatment.
“The lawyer Danilo Buongiorno, in the name and on behalf of Mr. Paolo Maldini, warns anyone from repeating such behaviour and reserves, if necessary, any action to protect his client; and in defence of the fundamental right of freedom of expression.”
Maldini emphasized that he no longer follows Milan after his departure, even abstaining from attending matches at San Siro.
