Last week, the Premier League unveiled the eight contenders for this season’s Player of the Season Award, including two standout players from Manchester City: Erling Haaland and Phil Foden. Also among the nominees were Martin Odegaard, Alexander Isak, Cole Palmer, Declan Rice, Virgil van Dijk, and Ollie Watkins.

While Man City goalkeeper Ederson expressed satisfaction with seeing two of his teammates nominated for the prestigious accolade, he raised concerns about the absence of Rodri from the selection, branding the Spaniard’s exclusion as ‘unacceptable’. Despite being in the running for their fourth consecutive Premier League title, Pep Guardiola’s side suffered only three defeats this season, against Arsenal, Wolves, and Aston Villa, all occurring during Rodri’s suspension.

In an interview with ESPN Brasil, Ederson remarked, “There are good players, but I see Rodri as a great candidate who isn’t on the list. I don’t understand why he’s not on the list either. Honestly, that’s unacceptable. If you look at his year, his campaign, the last few seasons he’s been playing and see that he’s not on the list, it’s absurd. I don’t know what criteria they use to nominate players, but there are also great players competing.”

“But I see Rodri as a great candidate to win and unfortunately, he’s not on the list. So I think I’ll be rooting for Phil to win because Phil is also having a great season, he’s helped us a lot. This season he’s scored more goals, provided more assists, been more consistent and more important to the team too.” Ederson added.

Guardiola’s squad will resume action on Tuesday night against Tottenham Hotspur in a crucial Premier League encounter away from home.
