Reports indicate that Antonio Conte has once again become the primary contender for the position of Napoli’s new coach, surpassing Stefano Pioli, Vincenzo Italiano, and Gian Piero Gasperini.

Napoli finds themselves in a state of crisis, exacerbated by their recent 2-0 defeat at home to Bologna, making even qualifying for the Conference League a daunting task.

The need to reconstruct the team significantly influences the decisions of President Aurelio De Laurentiis. Previously, De Laurentiis attempted to lure Conte out of his sabbatical in January without success. There were suggestions that Conte had slipped in priority due to his high salary demands.

However, according to Alfredo Pedullà, a transfer expert for Sportitalia, the situation is evolving, with Conte regaining prominence due to his capability to revitalize a lethargic and mentally fragile team.

While Gasperini might be De Laurentiis’s preferred choice, it appears improbable as he is unlikely to depart Atalanta after their successful campaigns in the Europa League and Coppa Italia.

Pioli and Italiano are considered alternative options, with both expected to leave their current positions at Milan and Fiorentina, respectively, this summer.

Nonetheless, Sportitalia asserts that Conte is open to the idea of coaching Napoli, leaving the decision ultimately in the hands of De Laurentiis, who must weigh the substantial financial commitment required for Conte’s salary of €7 million per season plus bonuses and the inevitable expenses associated with rebuilding the team.
