Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport and Tuttosport indicate that Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez are slated to begin tonight’s match against Cagliari on the bench, with Stefano Pioli expressing dissatisfaction with their recent attitude.

Pioli plans to implement significant changes to the Rossoneri lineup for the evening’s fixture, with Theo, Leao, and even Fikayo Tomori expected to start from the sidelines.

In its Saturday print edition, La Gazzetta dello Sport suggested that Pioli intends to ‘penalize’ key players from Milan, possibly due to their demeanor and subpar performances in recent weeks.

Tomori’s involvement in conceding a penalty in the previous match against Genoa, along with contributing to Malick Thiaw’s own goal in the dying minutes, has likely influenced Pioli’s decision.

Theo and Leao’s lackluster performances against Genoa were met with disappointment, with Leao facing criticism from fans upon his substitution.

Journalist Luca Bianchin emphasized that tonight’s lineup decisions serve as a warning for future behavior. Specifically, Leao, nearing 25, is urged to contemplate his progress, as it seems he’s yet to tap into his full potential.

The Gazzetta journalist highlighted Pioli’s lenient approach with Leao this season but speculated on what a firmer stance might have yielded in terms of performance.

Leao’s inconsistency, evidenced by his meager seven Serie A goals this season, has led to Pioli’s choice to bench him.

According to Gazzetta, Theo’s absence from the starting lineup raises speculation about his future, with a potential move to Bayern Munich in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Both Tuttosport and Gazzetta have reported heightened tension at Milanello this week, with the former adding that Leao has previously been left out of the starting XI this season, albeit for rotational purposes rather than technical or tactical reasons.
