Newcastle United have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Lloyd Kelly on a free transfer, as part of their summer rebuilding plans. The Magpies, under manager Eddie Howe, are aiming to make significant improvements to challenge for a top-four finish next season.
The 25-year-old defender, currently at Bournemouth, will join Newcastle upon the expiration of his contract in June. Kelly, who joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2019, has made 139 appearances for the Cherries and is known for his versatility, capable of playing as a center-back or left-back. Despite a season hampered by injuries, including calf, hamstring, and hip issues, Kelly remains a highly sought-after player. Newcastle faced competition from Tottenham, who had a £20 million bid rejected last summer, and AC Milan, who also expressed interest in the defender.
In addition to Kelly, Newcastle are also interested in Freiburg midfielder Merlin Rohl. However, Everton are reportedly leading the race for the 21-year-old, as per SunSport’s exclusive report last week.
Here is the highlight video of Lloyd Kelly’s defensive skills.
