Genoa’s top scorer, Albert Gudmundsson, won’t feature in the upcoming Serie A clash against Milan at San Siro due to a bout of flu, as confirmed by recent reports. The Icelandic forward, a key player for Genoa, hasn’t made the trip with Alberto Gilardino’s squad because he’s been battling a fever that hasn’t subsided since the weekend, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

Gudmundsson, who has been the subject of speculation linking him to Milan throughout the 2023-24 season, currently leads Genoa’s scoring charts with 14 goals across all competitions this season. In contrast, his strike partner, Italian international Mateo Retegui, trails behind with six goals for the season.

The absence of Gudmundsson poses a significant concern for Genoa, especially as his usual replacement, Vitinha, is also sidelined due to discomfort reported after the team’s recent training session. As a precautionary measure, he has been rested as well.

As a result, Retegui is expected to lead the line, with the likelihood of playing the full 90 minutes. The squad’s options upfront are limited, with Caleb Ekuban and 21-year-old David Anyeke, who has seen minimal Serie A action with just 49 minutes played, being the only other available forwards.
