Marcus Rashford firmly rejects Manchester United’s exit talks amid PSG rumors

The Sun reports that amidst discussions of a squad overhaul at Manchester United, selling Marcus Rashford has become a viable option to meet Financial Fair Play regulations, with PSG emerging as a potential buyer.

Amid discussions of a potential revamp of the United squad, The Sun suggests that selling Rashford has become a feasible option. With all profits from trading homegrown players contributing to Financial Fair Play (FFP) compliance, a potential sale aligns with INEOS’ long-term financial objectives.

The report indicates PSG, among a handful of clubs, as a realistic contender willing to meet Rashford’s £80 million ($100m) valuation and accommodate his substantial personal terms. This comes particularly as PSG looks to fill the gap left by Kylian Mbappe’s possible departure in the summer.

Despite Rashford’s underwhelming performance on the field, the club maintains confidence in his potential and aspirations for success. This is especially noteworthy given the significant investment in him through a lucrative contract extension binding him to the club until at least 2028. However, decision-makers acknowledge the need for Rashford’s on-field performance to improve significantly, as he has only scored eight club goals this season and often finds himself benched.

Rashford reportedly intends to stay at United and is content living in Manchester, though his weekly wage of £325,000 poses a hurdle to a potential departure.

Fan discontent towards the local star is evident, with boos directed at Rashford during the FA Cup semi-final when he was substituted towards the end of regular time. Additionally, the report suggests a strained relationship between Rashford and manager Erik ten Hag, with minimal communication between them.

Ten Hag’s frustration reportedly arises from Rashford’s alleged disregard for warnings about his off-field behavior. Instances such as partying after the 3-0 derby defeat last October and being seen out in Belfast in January, despite scheduled training the following day, have strained their relationship.

Rashford’s rough patch may jeopardize his spot in England’s Euro 2024 squad. However, his determination to stay at the club despite challenges both on and off the field underscores his commitment amid swirling transfer rumors. He has five remaining matches this season to prove himself to Gareth Southgate, including a significant FA Cup final against Manchester City. Whether he can seize these opportunities to end the campaign positively begins with a clash against Crystal Palace on Monday evening.
