Il Corriere dello Sport reports that Georgiy Sudakov is the primary midfield target for Napoli, with Arsenal also expressing interest. Shakhtar Donetsk, aiming for another major sale akin to Mykhailo Mudryk’s transfer to Chelsea last year, faces competition for Sudakov’s signature.
Napoli has identified Ukraine international Sudakov as their top choice for the central midfield role in the upcoming season. Despite a €40m bid being turned down previously, Shakhtar director Sergej Palkin stated that even €50m would not be sufficient to secure Sudakov’s transfer in the summer. Napoli views the 21-year-old as the perfect replacement for Piotr Zielinski, who is set to depart for Inter on a free transfer in June.
Arsenal emerges as a significant contender alongside Napoli in the pursuit of Sudakov during the summer transfer window. Despite Sudakov recently extending his contract with Shakhtar, it’s understood that he has been assured of leaving the club either at the season’s end or in 2025.
Shakhtar is hopeful that additional clubs will enter the race for Sudakov’s services by the end of the season, thereby driving up his price and facilitating a lucrative transfer, similar to Mudryk’s €100m move to Chelsea, inclusive of add-ons, in January 2023.
