According to Catalunya Radio, the 25-year-old is eager to stay in Barcelona, but he’s increasingly mindful of rumors linking him to a transfer at the end of the season, with Bayern Munich reportedly showing interest in the formidable defender.

Barcelona’s financial difficulties are widely known, and having already employed various financial mechanisms to access immediate capital based on future earnings, the club might now consider the conventional route of raising funds through player sales in the upcoming summer transfer window.

From an accounting perspective, it’s more appealing to sell a player who has been with the club for a substantial period, and whose initial transfer fee has been fully accounted for – hence the consistent speculation surrounding Araujo’s potential departure.

Despite Araujo often being mistaken for a product of Barcelona’s youth system, he actually joined the club at the age of 19, after playing in the Uruguayan Primera Division with Boston River. He spent two seasons with Barcelona’s B team before making his breakthrough into the first team at Camp Nou.

Following a challenging Champions League exit and a defeat in El Clasico, Barcelona will aim to regain stability with a rare Monday night fixture against Valencia, who are aspiring for European qualification. The club’s financial team will be particularly interested in securing second place in La Liga and securing a spot in next season’s lucrative Spanish Super Cup.
