Wolves made an unconventional move by pulling 15-year-old right-back Wes Okoduwa out of a science lesson on Friday, potentially to face Arsenal on Saturday night. If he plays, Okoduwa will be the youngest player in Wolves’ history at 15 years and 344 days.
Wolves boss Gary O’Neil expressed confidence in Okoduwa’s readiness for the game, highlighting his strong physical attributes and performance in training. The decision to consider Okoduwa comes amidst a significant injury crisis at Wolves, with nine first-team players sidelined or not fit enough to start against Arsenal. O’Neil acknowledged the challenging situation but also noted the positive aspect of involving many young players in the game. He hinted at possible debuts for some young players, highlighting the unfamiliarity of some bench players who have primarily trained with the academy.
Okoduwa, considered one of England’s brightest talents in his age group, has been linked with Manchester United and has featured for Wolves’ Under-21s. If he plays, Okoduwa will also become the Premier League’s second-youngest player, after Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri.
