Chelsea’s 2023-24 season has been marred by fitness concerns, leaving Mauricio Pochettino without the luxury of a fully-fit squad. This situation shows no signs of improvement in the near future.

Ahead of their Premier League clash against Everton at Stamford Bridge on Monday, Chelsea announced on their official website that 11 players were absent from training. Among them are long-standing absentees such as Reece James, Wesley Fofana, and Christopher Nkunku, who are still undergoing extensive rehabilitation.

Adding to the injury list are new names, including Argentina’s Enzo Fernandez. The World Cup-winning midfielder is nursing an injury that requires further medical evaluation. French defender Axel Disasi is in a similar situation.

Furthermore, Raheem Sterling and Robert Sanchez are both dealing with illness, further complicating Pochettino’s selection plans. Despite sitting ninth in the Premier League standings, Chelsea remain within striking distance of sixth-placed Manchester United, with games in hand over teams above them.
