Despite securing a thrilling 4-3 victory against Manchester United last week, Chelsea faced an unexpected setback with a 2-2 draw against Sheffield United, the Premier League’s lowest-ranked team, on Sunday. Following the match at Bramall Lane, Pochettino expressed his belief that his players still lack the necessary maturity, emphasizing the need to address this issue during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Despite Chelsea having spent over £1 billion on transfers since Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital assumed ownership in 2022, the club seems poised to further invest in new first-team players amid their disappointing 2023-24 season.

Pochettino stated to reporters, “We need to accept, working and trying to fix this type of problem.” He stressed the importance of analyzing the squad’s strengths and weaknesses as the season comes to a close, with the aim of recruiting individuals capable of addressing the team’s current shortcomings and enhancing performance in future seasons.

He added, “It’s about identifying the profile. We are learning how the players need to learn our demands from the coaching staff. It’s always a process to build and have the capacity to take a decision, but the right decision, and one you have to agree with the coaching staff, the sporting directors and the owners. Otherwise it is not easy to improve.”

Currently occupying the ninth position in the Premier League standings after 30 matches, Chelsea is gearing up to face Everton, who are fighting relegation, in their next game on April 15. Following this, they will encounter Manchester City in the FA Cup five days later, their sole opportunity to claim silverware this season.
