Since joining the South Beach outfit in the offseason, Suarez has impressed with his performances for the Florida-based team. Partnering with Lionel Messi and company, the Uruguayan has significantly contributed to their rise to second place in the Eastern Conference at the season’s outset.
With Messi sidelined for three MLS fixtures due to injury, Suarez was called upon to fill the void, and he certainly delivered. He has featured in eight out of a possible ten matches, registering a total of 12 goal involvements across all competitions.
Although Suarez trailed Lewis Morgan of NYRB in goals scored and Chicho Arango of RSL in overall goal contributions throughout February and March, he still managed to clinch the award ahead of these two frontrunners.
