Four athletes from the Argentine top-tier club Vélez Sarsfield were apprehended on Monday in relation to a sexual assault case.

Sebastián Sosa, the goalkeeper, defender Braian Cufré, midfielder José Ignacio Florentín, and striker Abiel Osorio were taken into custody.

This action followed a demand from case prosecutor María Eugenia Posse in San Miguel de Tucumán, situated 1,200 kilometers (745 miles) north of Buenos Aires, the capital.

The purported victim informed authorities that on March 3, she consented to accompany one of the players to a hotel room where three other men were present. She stated that she consumed alcohol with the players, fell asleep on one of the beds, and was subsequently sexually assaulted.

Patricia Neme, an attorney representing the alleged victim, informed Argentine media that Sosa initiated contact with her client and invited her to the hotel. Sosa refuted any allegations of misconduct.

Vélez declared that it suspended the contracts of all four players following their arrests.

“This club stresses its deepest concern for the denounced facts, which are clearly against the principles and values of our institution,” Vélez stated in a released communication.
