As per Merseyside Police reports, Lewis Cleary threw the bottle while the coach was en route to Anfield on December 17, 2023. The 23-year-old, convicted of criminal damage at Sefton Magistrates’ Court in Liverpool, caused harm to a side window before the Reds faced United earlier in the season.

In addition to his three-year ban, Cleary was also given a 150-hour community order and instructed to pay £500 for compensation and costs. Police are aiming for a trouble-free environment as United prepares to host the Reds at Old Trafford in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.

Merseyside Police initiated an operation around Manchester City’s recent visit to Liverpool’s stadium. Due to this operation, the Cityzens’ first team took an alternate route to Anfield and arrived without any incidents.

Following this high-profile FA Cup match, Erik ten Hag’s team will resume Premier League action against Brentford at Gtech Community Stadium on March 30, while Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will host Brighton a day later.
