The former Liverpool mainstay, now playing for Ajax, faced a harsh reception from Aston Villa supporters throughout the game, making for a challenging return to his former stomping grounds during the Europa Conference League match. He endured loud jeers from the crowd, reminiscent of the hostility he encountered from England fans at Wembley last October.

Henderson had a difficult time in midfield, appearing unsettled after bearing the brunt of the tumultuous reception. He acknowledged the match’s difficulty and identified the second goal as the turning point.

Reflecting on the game with TNT Sports afterward, Henderson commented, “Tough game. It’s hard to stand here and put it into words straight after the game. We’ve been beaten quite easily in the end which is disappointing. I felt we were in the game at the end of the first half. We conceded a second goal which was poor on our behalf and then it’s always tough at that point. To go 10 men it’s very difficult to come back against a good side. Injuries and everything started to go wrong. If we’d kept it at 1-0 for longer we could have hurt them but we were well beaten in the end. Villa are a good side.”

Ajax suffered a heavy defeat against an aggressive Villa side, conceding the opening goal to Ollie Watkins within 25 minutes. Leon Bailey extended the lead, and with Sivert Mannsverk’s dismissal, Jhon Duran and Moussa Diaby added to the scoreline, securing a decisive victory.

Henderson and his teammates currently sit fifth in the Eredivisie, trailing the Champions League spots by 19 points, and are scheduled to face Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday. Meanwhile, Aston Villa will take on West Ham in a Premier League clash on the same day.
