The 40-year-old defender, who spent the 2018/19 season at Arsenal, making 23 appearances and reaching the Europa League final, brings a wealth of experience to his new position.

Lichtsteiner enjoyed a successful playing career, winning seven Serie A titles with Juventus and representing clubs like Lazio, Lille, and Grasshoppers. He also earned 108 caps for Switzerland and participated in three World Cups. After retiring from playing in 2020, Lichtsteiner pursued an internship as a watchmaker before returning to football. Now, he is set to lead Wettswil-Bonstetten, a modest club from Zurich’s suburbs, in Switzerland’s fourth division. The club announced Lichtsteiner’s appointment, highlighting his local connections and extensive experience as key factors in their decision.

Lichtsteiner’s coaching journey began as the U16 coach at FC Basel, and now he looks forward to guiding Wettswil-Bonstetten’s flagship team. His brief stint at Arsenal, during which he scored one goal in a League Cup match against Blackpool, adds to his credentials as he takes on this new challenge.
