Manchester City’s 25-year-old Portuguese playmaker, Matheus Nunes, endured a gruesome injury during City’s Champions League match against Copenhagen. The incident occurred late in the game as City secured a 3-1 victory at the Etihad Stadium, booking their spot in the quarter-finals.
Nunes appeared to suffer a broken or dislocated finger, with images showing his left middle finger bent at a 90-degree angle backward at the knuckle. The injury left him in extreme pain and required immediate medical attention from City’s staff. Despite their efforts to treat the injury and strap it up, Nunes was unable to continue and was substituted for Micah Hamilton.
The injury left fans shocked and squeamish, with many taking to social media to express their sympathy and wish Nunes a speedy recovery. Despite the injury, City cruised to a 6-2 aggregate victory over Copenhagen, with Manuel Akanji, Kamil Grabara, and Erling Haaland all getting on the scoresheet.
