Barcelona has faced financial struggles in recent years, reportedly exceeding their La Liga-imposed annual spending limit by around €200 million ($217m), as per ESPN. Gerard Pique, the former player, has called upon his ex-club to openly share their true financial status with the fans and advocate for honesty and transparency.

In an interview on Ibai Lalnos’ Twitch channel, the ex-Spain international expressed doubts about Barcelona’s ability to compete for Champions League success given their current financial predicament. Pique emphasized the importance of truthfulness, stating that fans deserve to know the reality, even if it’s challenging. He suggested that Barcelona should prioritize nurturing talent from their renowned youth academy, La Masia, rather than splurging on high-profile signings and accumulating further debts.

Pique emphasized the need for Barcelona to focus on developing homegrown talent and competing for La Liga titles over the next few years. He cautioned against making grand promises of signing star players like Erling Haaland without the financial means to support such acquisitions.

Barcelona, currently in third place in La Liga and trailing leaders Real Madrid by eight points, will face Mallorca in a crucial league encounter on Friday. They are also gearing up for the second leg of their Champions League round of 16 tie against Napoli, with the aggregate score level at 1-1.
