Former Premier League midfielder Hamza Choudhury, 26, has pleaded guilty to drink driving after being stopped by police in south Nottingham last month. The Leicester City player was fined £20,000 and banned from driving for 40 months after being caught driving on the wrong side of the road in his wife’s Range Rover.

Choudhury, who earns £12,000 a week, was found to be driving with double the legal alcohol limit. His lawyer explained that Choudhury had shared a taxi home with a friend from a restaurant but returned to retrieve his phone in his wife’s car, leading to the incident. The court heard that Choudhury had a previous drink-driving conviction from 2017, which meant he faced a mandatory ban of at least three years. However, his 40-month ban will be reduced by around nine months if he completes a drink-driving rehabilitation course.

Despite his off-field troubles, Choudhury has been a key player for Leicester City in the Championship this season, with the team currently at the top of the table. He has also represented England at the Under 21 level in the past.
