Newcastle United managed to scrape through to the FA Cup quarterfinals after a lackluster performance against Blackburn Rovers. Despite their unconvincing display, the Magpies are now three wins away from their first domestic trophy since 1955. The honking performance from Newcastle left much to be desired, with manager Eddie Howe under increasing pressure to improve results.

Despite their struggles in the league, Newcastle’s season remains alive, albeit flickering. Blackburn Rovers, with just one Championship win in 13 games, gave Newcastle a tough challenge and will be rueing missed opportunities to knock out their Saudi-funded opponents. However, penalty hero Martin Dubravka saved the day for Newcastle, securing their spot in the next round. Although Anthony Gordon gave Newcastle the lead, Sammie Szmodics equalized for Blackburn, setting the stage for a tense penalty shootout.

Newcastle emerged victorious, with Dubravka making crucial saves and the players celebrating wildly at the end. Fans, along with Howe, are desperate for silverware, especially with Newcastle slipping to 10th in the Premier League. Howe will need to find answers quickly if he hopes to secure his job long-term and guide Newcastle to success in the FA Cup.

Here is the highlight video of Blackburn vs. Newcastle United, which ended with a 1-1 (3-4 on penalties).
