Despite having a contract in place until 2025, Bayern Munich’s decision to part company with Tuchel follows a series of setbacks, including a three-game losing streak across all competitions and a second-place position in the Bundesliga, trailing leaders Bayer Leverkusen by eight points.

Reflecting on his tenure at Bayern, Tuchel highlighted the team’s unfortunate string of injuries, which hindered their ability to sustain top-level performance. He acknowledged that his decision to assume leadership was made hastily and admitted to struggling to maintain consistency within the team.

When questioned by reporters about the wisdom of joining Bayern, Tuchel responded, “Looking back serves no purpose. We made a quick decision back then, driven by confidence and eagerness. Despite achieving notable successes and breaking records, our efforts were overshadowed by significant injury setbacks. While our coaching staff remained confident, we couldn’t consistently elevate the team’s performance. Hence, we’re parting ways this summer.”

Tuchel emphasized that while he might not fully comprehend or agree with Bayern’s decision, the clarity regarding his future allows him to focus solely on upcoming matches without the weight of long-term consequences.

“It does not matter if I understand the decision of the club or whether I am happy with it,” Tuchel remarked. “The only thing that matters now is that there is clarity. Clarity brings freedom and it is good for the matches and the training. More freedom for the coach on how to act. You don’t have to think about the long-term consequences of your choices. You can be a bit more reckless.”

Bayern’s recent performances have been inconsistent, marked by losses to lower-ranked teams like Saarbruecken in the German Cup and a first-leg defeat to Lazio in the Champions League round of 16. The recent 3-2 defeat against VfL Bochum prompted management to review Tuchel’s position. However, Tuchel believes he isn’t the sole issue within the club.

“I never felt that we as coaching staff stopped reaching the team,” Tuchel expressed. “But we have a discrepancy from training to matches and the coach is responsible. I don’t think I am the only problem but I accept my responsibility. I am not satisfied with the way we play and have been unhappy for quite some time.”

“Now we have a new situation but the situation has been solved and communicated but I don’t think I am the only problem.”

Speculation surrounds potential successors, with Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso emerging as a prime candidate. However, Alonso has remained silent on the matter, refraining from commenting on his potential candidacy.
