The Norwegian was dismissed by Manchester United in November 2021 following a 4-1 loss against Watford. During that match, where Harry Maguire received a red card in the second half, the ex-United forward noted that some players didn’t exert as much effort as they could have.

Speaking to the National, he remarked, “There were many lows. I’m one of them who looks back at the lows more than the highs. The end at Watford, well you can’t get lower than that. I more or less knew at half time, so my team talk was about enjoying the last 45 minutes together and giving their all. Some of them had stopped running, caring. But then in the second half we played well. Donny [Van de Beek] came on and scored. We should have scored more. Then we got a sending off. 2-1 until the 94th minute. It sounds really bad that it was a 4-1 defeat. It was bad to lose against Watford but it wasn’t a 4-1 game.”

Despite assisting Manchester United to a second-place finish in the Premier League in 2021, their joint-best result in 10 years, his tenure ultimately concluded without success. The Red Devils were defeated on penalties in the Europa League final in 2021 by Villarreal, and Solskjaer hasn’t managed in football since.

The 50-year-old former Molde manager had been rumored to be considering a move to Bayern Munich on a short-term basis, before current manager Thomas Tuchel announced he would step down at the end of the season. Solskjaer will simply have to bide his time until a new managerial opportunity arises.
