A week ago, the renowned Manchester United icon and pundit expressed his belief that Arsenal’s Saka hasn’t reached world-class status yet, citing his lack of proof in the Champions League.

On Tuesday, Ferdinand boarded a flight to Portugal to cover Arsenal’s Champions League round of 16 match against FC Porto for TNT Sports. Coincidentally, a group of Arsenal fans shared the flight and upon noticing the former defender, they playfully teased him with chants of “Saka’s world-class.”

Taking the banter in stride, the former England international responded to the fans via the flight intercom system. With a touch of humour, he quipped, “I just wanna say, it’s an absolute pleasure to travel with you Arsenal fans. I must say Saka is a fantastic player, just not world-class yet. He will be one day but just not yet.”

The 22-year-old Gunners winger has been on fire lately, scoring six goals in his last four Premier League matches, including braces in victories over West Ham and Burnley. Overall, Saka has contributed 15 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions this season, along with 13 assists.

Following their clash with Porto in the first leg of the round of 16 Champions League tie, Mikel Arteta’s team will face a crucial Premier League match against Newcastle United on Saturday.
