Former Liverpool youth player Jamie Cassidy, 46, who once starred alongside Jamie Carragher and Michael Owen, is facing a jail sentence after pleading guilty to a drug plot. Cassidy was part of Liverpool’s successful youth team that won the FA Youth Cup in 1996, defeating a West Ham side featuring Rio Ferdinand and Frank Lampard.

Cassidy’s promising career was derailed by injuries, leading him to play non-league football after a brief stint with Cambridge United. Despite his potential, injuries prevented him from fulfilling his promise, as noted by Carragher in his autobiography. Cassidy’s recent arrest was part of a police operation targeting an encrypted phone network used by criminals for drug trafficking, firearms supply, and violence. At Manchester Crown Court, Cassidy pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and conspiracy to conceal criminal property.

His brother, Jonathan Cassidy, 50, and Nasar Ahmed, 51, also pleaded guilty to related charges. The Honorary Recorder of Manchester, Judge Nicholas Dean KC, informed Cassidy that his sentencing would soon occur after over three years in custody. Cassidy and the other defendants were remanded into custody pending sentencing.
