Salah has been absent from Liverpool’s lineup since New Year’s Day due to a severe hamstring injury sustained during the AFCON group stages while representing Egypt. This injury prompted his early return to Anfield for treatment. Initially, it was anticipated that the 31-year-old would be sidelined for an extended period. However, he has made a quicker-than-expected recovery and appeared in high spirits as he returned to training at Melwood on Tuesday morning.

During Egypt’s match against Ghana on January 18, Salah was forced off the field just before half-time due to injury. Following an assessment by medical personnel, he was deemed unfit for play for a month. Egypt’s elimination from the AFCON during the round of 16 further dashed any hopes of Salah’s potential return to action during the tournament. Consequently, he concentrated on completing his rehabilitation regimen at Liverpool’s training facility.

Although Salah resumed light training drills at the beginning of the month, he wasn’t deemed fit to participate in Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Burnley last weekend. As Liverpool gears up for a crucial fixture against Brentford on February 17, Salah’s return to the first team puts him in contention for playing time at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Liverpool’s aim to secure a victory at Brentford is paramount to maintaining their two-point lead over Manchester City atop the Premier League table. Salah’s return could provide a crucial advantage as the season enters its decisive phase. Despite missing the last eight matches, Salah remains Liverpool’s top scorer for the 2023-24 season with 18 goals across all competitions.
