Football Fan Admits Attacking Newcastle Keeper Martin Dubravka At Stamford Bridge

A football supporter, Jordan Chidley, has admitted to assaulting Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka after running onto the pitch at Stamford Bridge during the League Cup quarter-final. The incident occurred following Mykhailo Mudryk’s last-minute equalizer, prompting Chidley to leave the stands. As the match approached penalties, Chidley intentionally collided with Dubravka, displaying aggressive behavior towards the player.

Despite attributing his actions to “overexuberant celebrations” after Chelsea’s late goal, Chidley pleaded guilty to assault by beating at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. As part of his punishment, he received a three-year football banning order and was fined £1,215. Although Dubravka did not provide a statement, prosecutor Malachy Pakenham described the incident as involving minimal contact.

Video evidence showed Chidley pointing in Dubravka’s face before fleeing. Chidley’s defense emphasized that he is not a football hooligan and portrayed the incident as a one-off occurrence. However, the judge underscored the need to deter similar behavior by imposing a stern sentence.
