Daniele De Rossi exhibited frustration on the sidelines towards Leandro Paredes and Romelu Lukaku during Roma’s convincing 4-0 triumph. “That was truly foolish,” he remarked.

The victory marked the third consecutive win for the new coach, following successes against Verona and Salernitana, as they dominated Cagliari at the Stadio Olimpico.

In principle, it seemed like the perfect evening for the Giallorossi, but their coach was visibly irate on the touchline.

Early on, there was an altercation when Lukaku confronted defender Yerry Mina, engaging in a heated confrontation until separated by the referee.

“Think, we are leading the game, there’s no need to react,” De Rossi shouted at his forward.

In the second half, Nicola Zalewski was brought down by Mina, and while he remained on the ground with the referee allowing play to continue, Nahitan Nandez attempted to forcibly lift the Roma player to his feet.

This altercation led to a scuffle, resulting in yellow cards for Nandez and Paredes, much to the coach’s dismay, who began kicking and tossing water bottles.

“Look, I like it when players try to defend their teammates, but when leading 4-0 they need to be intelligent,” De Rossi stated during his press conference.

“We need to clamp down on this sort of behaviour because getting booked when you are 4-0 up is truly stupid. We cannot afford to lose any of these players.”

Adding to the frustration, Paredes was making his return after serving a Serie A suspension due to accumulating yellow cards.

The Argentine international has a concerning disciplinary history, amassing 12 bookings in 29 competitive matches this season, with 11 of them occurring in just 21 Serie A appearances.

The dispute continued between Paredes and Mina after the match, with both exchanging heated words and gestures.

Following the reprimand, De Rossi emphasized Paredes’ talents and urged him to address this persistent flaw in his character.

“There are few midfielders with his quality in the world. But he has to improve his positioning, finding himself in the path of the ball.”

“He needs to listen to me, because I used to do that well. Without having to run like someone who has four lungs, he can be more decisive when defending.”
