Following incidents of inappropriate behavior among certain members of the media, CAF has issued a stern warning, threatening to revoke accreditation for journalists engaging in rowdy celebrations, mistreatment of fellow reporters, and adopting a zero-tolerance stance on physical altercations. Additionally, CAF has prohibited live streaming from mixed zones, the use of drones, and any unauthorized filming within stadiums. During the briefing on new guidelines for media personnel, a CAF spokesperson expressed concern, stating, “There was someone dancing naked in the media tribune. We cannot have that.”

The governing body of African football emphasized its observation of increasingly improper and unprofessional conduct among certain “media practitioners” within the working environments at the Africa Cup of Nations. CAF convened with the Local Organizing Committee and law enforcement to address the situation and seek viable solutions. While acknowledging the shared passion for national teams among all football enthusiasts, journalists are reminded of the importance of upholding professional standards.

Ghana’s players faced verbal abuse from journalists in the mixed zone following their 2-2 draw with Mozambique in the group stage, while manager Chris Hughton encountered heckling during a press conference. Host nation Ivory Coast also experienced similar challenges, alongside incidents during other matches.

The upcoming weekend marks the continuation of the AFCON knockout rounds, with Nigeria and DR Congo securing spots in the semi-finals after triumphing in their respective quarter-final matches on Friday. Saturday evening features Ivory Coast versus Mali, and Cape Verde against South Africa, determining the remaining semi-finalists. The tournament will culminate in the final on February 11th.
