This week, Klopp announced his impending departure from his role as Liverpool manager at the end of the season. Prior to his public announcement, the German manager informed his players of his decision, which Van Dijk acknowledged was challenging to absorb.
“It’s a tough pill to swallow because the manager holds immense significance for us, personally for me, for the club, and for the entire Premier League,” Van Dijk expressed. “However, he made the choice for himself and his family. It was always going to be a difficult decision, and that certainly proved to be the case.”
He further elaborated, “Yeah, he told us in private of course, and all of us were together. Like I said, it’s a hard one to take but our mindset is to focus on business. We have a lot of targets still to achieve this year and why not finish the season on a high and together with celebrations for the boss as well?”
Klopp’s departure marks the end of his nearly nine-year tenure at Anfield. During his time, the former Borussia Dortmund manager steered the club to victories in the Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup in England. Additionally, his team reached three Champions League finals, securing the trophy once.
In the current season, Klopp aims to guide Liverpool to a second Premier League title. The Merseyside team currently leads the table, enjoying a five-point advantage over reigning champions Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
