Guardiola displayed evident frustration towards Ceferin after the UEFA president publicly asserted to The Telegraph this week that UEFA’s decision to impose a two-year ban on Manchester City from the Champions League in 2020 was justified due to violations of financial fair play rules. The ban, however, was overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport upon appeal.

In a press conference on Friday, Guardiola, emphasizing Ceferin’s role as a lawyer, urged him to exercise patience and respect the legal process before making any statements. Guardiola emphasized the importance of adhering to proper procedures and stressed that they have the right to defend themselves against such allegations.

Despite the Champions League ban being overturned, Manchester City capitalized on the situation, reaching the final in 2021, the semi-finals in 2022, and ultimately winning the competition in 2023. However, the club still faces uncertainty as they await the resolution of the Premier League’s 115 charges related to alleged financial rule violations. While a hearing date has been scheduled, the timing remains uncertain. If found guilty, City could potentially face relegation from the Premier League and be stripped of the three titles they secured during the period in question.

Guardiola and the City team, having concluded a warm-weather training camp in Abu Dhabi, are set to resume competitive action against Tottenham in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Friday.
