Last summer, Al-Nassr vigorously pursued the Croatia captain, aiming to pair him with former Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo. Despite Modric remaining in the Spanish capital, it has now come to light that he seriously contemplated the offer to join the Saudi Pro League, considering Ronaldo’s team as his favored destination if Madrid did not offer him a contract extension.

Vucevic, shedding light on Al-Nassr’s discussions with the Madrid star, revealed in an interview with Croatian radio show Sata 24: “Luka was our top priority, and we engaged in several conversations with him, always respecting Real Madrid, which remained his primary choice. We had positive interactions, meeting in Riyadh before the World Cup in Qatar and in Madrid. Club owners, Modric, and I were present in these discussions. Luka conveyed that he was exclusively considering Real Madrid and Al-Nassr. He affirmed that Madrid was his first preference, and if he didn’t continue there, he would join us.”

Despite an undisclosed Pro League club offering a reported £120 million ($149.5m) per season last summer, Modric declined the offer. With his contract set to expire at the end of this season, there have been speculations about his potential departure from Madrid. Rumors suggest that the Croatia captain is contemplating a move to the Saudi Pro League next summer, particularly with Jude Bellingham excelling in his preferred attacking midfield position, making it unclear how Modric would secure playing time as a former Ballon d’Or winner.
