In the dying moments of stoppage time, Lautaro Martinez secured Inter’s third consecutive Supercoppa Italiana victory over 10-man Napoli. Giovanni Simeone received a red card in the 60th minute. The tournament adopted a new Final Four format, pitting the traditional Serie A and Coppa Italia title holders against each other, following Fiorentina and Lazio’s 3-0 defeats in the semi-finals.

Alessandro Bastoni was not in optimal condition, Juan Cuadrado was injured, and Napoli employed a new 3-4-3 formation. Victor Osimhen and Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa were on international duty, Natan, Mathias Olivera, and Alex Meret were sidelined, and Piotr Zielinski and Mario Rui were fit only for the bench. Alessio Zerbin started after his brace as a substitute in the semi-final.

Federico Dimarco’s powerful volley narrowly missed the target, and Pierluigi Gollini saved a long-range Hakan Calhanoglu strike. Lautaro Martinez’s header went wide, and though he found the net in the 38th minute, Marcus Thuram had been offside during the assist.

Stefan de Vrij defended well against Kvicha Kvaratskhelia’s maneuvers, while Thuram’s attempt on goal went wide after beating Gollini to a through ball. Thuram headed Nicoló Barella’s cross over just before half-time.

A minute’s silence was observed in the second half in honor of Italy legend Gigi Riva, who passed away just moments before the match.

Matteo Politano’s free kick went over the bar, but Kvaratskhelia forced Yann Sommer into a crucial save with a right-footed curler, parried from the far top corner after Stanislav Lobotka’s pass.

Barella received a yellow card for dissent, and like Calhanoglu, will be suspended when Inter faces Fiorentina in Serie A.

Amir Rrahmani intercepted a Darmian pass that could have sent Lautaro Martinez clear, and Thuram’s rebound was saved by Gollini.

The game took a turn when Simeone received a second yellow card for a ‘step on foot’ incident with Francesco Acerbi, leaving Napoli with 10 men. Walter Mazzarri expressed his displeasure, and Calhanoglu was fortunate to escape further punishment in the first half.
