Informal talks between Miami and River have occurred regarding Palavecino, but a formal offer for the 27-year-old midfielder has not been submitted by the club yet. Despite Palavecino having a $20 million (£15.78m) release clause at River, there are indications from the Argentine media outlet Olé that River might be willing to sell him for around $3.5 million (£2.76m) – the amount they paid to Deportivo Cali in 2021 to acquire his services.
Palavecino, who came through the Platense youth system, has struggled to secure a spot in the River team under manager Martín Demichelis. However, club president Jorge Brito emphasized that Demichelis considers Palavecino to be “important” and wants him to remain with the team.
Brito stated to reporters, “Martín Demichelis considers Palavecino important. We did not have any formal offer, although we know of Inter Miami’s interest .”
Inter Miami, under the leadership of head coach Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino, is actively searching for midfield reinforcements. The club had an unsuccessful bid for Boca Juniors’ Cristian Medina and has now shifted focus to Palavecino.
Miami has already secured striker Luis Suárez and midfielder Julian Gressel through free transfers. Additionally, defenders Tyler Hall and Israel Boatwright have been signed from the reserve squad in preparation for the upcoming regular MLS season set to begin in February.
