Former Manchester City and Tranmere Rovers footballer, Max Norman, 25, has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison after pleading guilty to drug possession charges. Norman, who listed his football career with youth spells at City and Wigan Athletic, along with professional stints at Tranmere, Morecambe, and Turkish side Alanyaspor, was caught three times in two months with banned substances.

One of the incidents involved Norman hiding drugs in his underwear, which fell out during a police search. His LinkedIn profile, where he identifies as a “free agent” for the last six years, also mentions playing at a high level in the UK and Europe. The police found heroin, cocaine, and crack cocaine worth over £50,000 hidden in an armchair during a search of Norman’s house after his second arrest. CCTV footage allegedly showed Norman at a drug house, delivering a bag. His lawyer, Stuart McNally, cited a brain injury from a car crash as a contributing factor to Norman’s actions.

Norman also suffers from ADHD and Tourettes. McNally highlighted his client’s intelligence and potential for rehabilitation, emphasizing Norman’s supportive family and available employment upon release. Norman’s encounters with the law included arrests on September 7, 2021, and October 14, 2021, with substances found during searches. The police discovered his drug stash on October 27, 2021, at an address in Liverpool city center.
