Arsenal has reportedly joined Manchester United in the pursuit of Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. The young center-back, who returned to Everton after a loan spell at PSV last season, has been a standout performer, contributing to seven clean sheets in the Premier League. Both Arsenal and Manchester United are keen on strengthening their defensive options, setting the stage for a potential transfer battle.

According to talkSPORT, Newcastle and Real Madrid are also monitoring Branthwaite’s situation. The 21-year-old previously played under Carlo Ancelotti at Everton, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the transfer speculation. Everton’s financial struggles, including potential points deductions for breaching Profitability and Sustainability Rules, might force them to consider selling Branthwaite. The looming points deduction is a consequence of the club’s reported losses exceeding the permitted threshold of £105 million over three years.

Branthwaite’s potential transfer could alleviate Everton’s financial challenges, with a fee in the region of £100 million expected. In addition to their interest in Branthwaite, Arsenal is reportedly eyeing Real Sociedad winger Ander Barrenetxea. However, competition for the winger’s signature might come from Tottenham. Moreover, Arsenal and Manchester United could find themselves in a battle for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt.
