Cameroon goalkeeper Andre Onana faced an unexpected delay on his journey to the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) after playing a crucial role in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham. Despite assisting United in a crucial match, Onana’s private jet was blocked in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, due to bad weather conditions in Yamoussoukro, where Cameroon played their Afcon opener against Guinea.

Onana had rushed to the airport immediately after the game, aiming to make it in time for Cameroon’s first Afcon match. However, the bad weather led to his private jet being grounded, leaving him stranded 150 miles away from the stadium. Onana attempted to reach the venue by car, but fog at Yamoussoukro Airport prevented safe landings. In Onana’s absence, his distant cousin Fabrice Ondoa stood in as goalkeeper for Cameroon, conceding within ten minutes against Guinea. Despite the setback, Cameroon managed to secure a 1-1 draw in their opening Afcon game.

Onana, who missed Cameroon’s pre-championship game against Zambia to assist Manchester United, will be unavailable until the completion of his international duty, leaving United with Altay Bayindir as their goalkeeper in the meantime. The former Inter Milan star joined Manchester United in a £47.1 million deal over the summer.
