In a significant setback, footballer Kyle Knoyle is confronting an extended period on the sidelines after being diagnosed with a brain bleed resulting from a collision with a Stockport teammate during a New Year’s Day match against Mansfield. Knoyle, a 27-year-old product of West Ham’s youth academy now playing for Stockport, was knocked unconscious during the game. Stockport manager Dave Challinor provided insight into the severity of Knoyle’s injuries, stating, “We got the results of another MRI scan, which revealed he has a broken nose, a fractured cheekbone, and a concussion.

They’re not the worst things, but he has a small bleed on the brain – that will go away, he’s not got any symptoms that are debilitating in any way. It will go.” Challinor drew a comparison with Raul Jimenez’s injury, emphasizing the cautious approach required in such cases. Despite the relatively minor nature of the bleed, Knoyle is scheduled to consult with a neurosurgeon at the end of January. The manager anticipates Knoyle’s absence to be prolonged, planning without the defender for an extended period.

Knoyle, who joined Stockport in January 2023 and made 17 appearances in League Two this season, faces a challenging recovery. Having signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with Stockport after leaving Doncaster Rovers, his return to the field will hinge on the recommendations of specialists overseeing his rehabilitation.
